Our Vision and Mission

Dove Fellowship’s vision is for women from all walks of life, to bond together in the power of the Holy Spirit to effect a force for good in the nation, and to become instrumental in building up family and parish life, providing support for one another.

The primary focus of Dove Fellowship is to lead women to a personal and ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour; to become fully immersed in the life of the Church and to become effective evangelisers.

The emphasis is women’s ministry to women in gentleness and love as exemplified by Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church.

The History of DoveMary Rose

Mary Rose

As the founding President of Dove Fellowship, it is an opportunity for me to spend a little time in looking back to our beginnings and to share our vision for the Future.

Early in 1983 in a tiny CCR office (our first) in St Benedict’s Priory, Barbara Hines (who shared with me responsibility for the running of the Centre), talked about our interest in a women’s fellowship within the Renewal. Not long afterwards, Father Paul Shannahan invited us and other women who had been in leadership in ‘Women’s Aglow Fellowship” (an ecumenical group for Spirit-filled women)to come together to discuss our experiences and to express any needs. These meetings were very beautiful as we listened, prayed and ministered to one another. The Holy Spirit seemed to be nudging us to be more generous with His blessings and be available to give them to the wider body of women in the Church. We began our ministry with a Seminar Day in February 1984 and from that day we have continued to meet for monthly morning meetings and many full day seminars throughout the years.

30 Year Celebration Days

In 2014, Dove held seven “Celebration Days”throughout the North and South Islands.  The focus of these days of celebration was to give thanks to God for the blessings Dove Ministry has brought to hundreds of women throughout New Zealand over the last 30 years.  The first day was held in Auckland where former Dove National presidents and women from the original Auckland formation group, shared their experiences of meeting and praying together and receiving the vision for Dove Ministry.

Dove Ministry began with a Seminar Day in February 1984. The response was wonderful and from that day Dove has continued to meet for monthly meetings, full day seminars and weekend retreats. The women shared how from the original Dove Team other leadership teams throughout New Zealand evolved. The current Dove National President, Val Morrison, shared her vision for the future of Dove, stating that although there will be changes Dove will remain faithful to the original guidelines. These guidelines have provided Dove with the strong foundation on which it stands today.

Thirty white doves were released into the sky to symbolise sending forth the vision of Dove into the future.

To support each other with compassion and love
and lead women to a personal and ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour

I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me
