November is the month that the Church especially remembers those who have died. This month Dove Fellowship would like to especially honour and remember the Founding President of Dove Catholic Fellowship for Women. On 7 April this year, over 500 people gathered to farewell Mary Rose Webb at the Catholic Church in Orewa. Mary Rose’s Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Paul Shannahan who was also very much part of the beginning years of Dove as was Bishop Denis Browne who co-celebrated with other priests.
35 years ago Mary Rose received the scripture from the “Song of Songs 2: 10-16, in particular the words “The Voice of the Turtle Dove will be heard in the land”. Mary Rose along with a small group of faith filled women prayed and believed in this scripture and now 35 years on this scripture has been fulfilled.
Mary Rose was a women of deep prayer and encouraged the women of Dove by her example. Her legacy to Dove is – Love, Joy and Happiness and even within the spirituality of Dove she always encouraged the women to have a balanced life. She taught the women to be Joyful and Happy in the presence of the the Lord and for many women this was a new experience.
Under Mary Rose’s leadership at the annual retreats “Love, Joy and Enjoyment” were also present, how she loved to see her Doves Happy. Her love for speech and drama has left us with many happy memories. When difficult decisions had to be made it was always taken to deep prayer and wise discernment. We will never know in this life how many women’s lives have been healed and changed by her love.
He said “Come my lovely one, My beautiful one, come”.
We thank you Mary Rose for your openness to the Holy Spirit, for your encouragement and love to countless women. We are here as leaders today because of your Servant Heart and Obedience to the call of God on your life. Your legacy to Dove Catholic Fellowship for Women continue to draw women into a deeper relationship with Jesus.
